So I had hard steering and after pulling back end apart and front end I surmised that is was my steering system which is rack and pinion.I have a 19' bayliner runabout. I figured that I needed a 14 ' cable altogether. Am I right?

Look at the writing on the existing cable. It should have a measurement.

I didn't take the old cable out. I couldn't cut the (whatever was holding it to the corner of the boat in the back) and didn't see anything on the old cable so I measured from steering wheel to transom and hoped I didn't get it wrong. Hence my question because I couldn't find the answer anywhere.

Now I am having trouble removing the old steering cable. HELP! There doesn't seem like there is enough room to pull it out of the tube - I run into the side of the boat. I need to pull about 1 more inch out. Anyone else have this trouble before.
