I just recently purchased a 91' Capri 1750 with a Force 90hp. Boat is tight, motor runs great but steering is very stiff. I disconnected the *trailing arm*? / *drag link*? from the motor. The motor moves very easily and freely so I know its not the king pin binding. Steering rack up front? Cable? Fairly new to boating but not new to wrenching. Help Please! Thanks to all.

Welcome aboard.

With the steering link disconnected, was the steering still stiff?

The motor swivel is eliminated with the link disconnected. Gonna move this to the Steering & Controls section since it's a steering issue. A better chance for the right answers.

Steering cable issues. Could be it just needs to be lubricated inside of the motor tube itself...or it may be time for a new cable.

Ordered a new cable with rack & pinion. Everything looks straight forward except what's at the end of the cable and how it attaches to the steering link?

Probably the cable. Given the cost of steering cables, for a few bucks more you can get a complete new system. Then everything is new and will work better for a long time.

Either the Uflex or SeaStar, the top two will work for about 150-170 bucks. http://www.iboats.com/Complete-Boat-...view_id.246967

A new cable alone is only 20-30 bucks less than a complete new R&P system. http://www.iboats.com/Uflex-Universa...view_id.367643

Replaced the cable (including new rack). Everything works great now.
Thanks for all the input.
