Re: steering issue

Well it depends how old the boat is. If it like 30ish years old it probably had an old cable and pulley system. Many small boats back then did. Mine does and I am currently waiting for a new rack system to show up to replace it with from iBoats. These complete systems aren't overly expensive so I would just replace it instead of looking for a new cable.

Speedy, The steering cables for rack and pinion types are not sold seperately, anymore. You will need to buy the entire steering system (except the steering wheel).

If that boat had the old cable and pulley system, you can restring it with new plastic-coated cable. They were perfectly fine, especially with a 55HP motor.

That is what I just ordered for my boat. Just make sure you double check your measurements.

Also, you didn't specify if you currently had a cable and pulley system or not. If you do and you're replacing it with this than you'll need to find a steering link bar for your outboard on eBay. They are cheap and plentiful. I bought mine from the forum's own Chinewalker who delivered it very quickly d:)
