Hi everyone! Have a 2000 Striper 2600 with a 5.7l VP and outdrive is an SX-M.
Took it out the other day and noticed that when turning, the steering wheel would seize up and then let loose. Not sure if this can be due to lack of grease behind the steering wheel or with the pump or what.
I am hoping to go Saturday and tinker with it to try to fix but any recommendations from this group would be extremely helpful.
TIA.

I think you have to break the problem down to pieces

Disconnect the steering cable at actuator see how it turns, look at ps fluid see if you are low, would disconnect drive steering arm from actuator and see if drive moves freely .

Hopefully you can determine where it is binding up

Appreciate the response. I think that’s a great approach. I will try that this weekend.

Also take a look at the actuator & see if there are any leaks, that's pretty common. Any noise from the pump? That's a sign of low P/S fluid level and leaks are likely....
