steering nut question

I have a 115hp Johnson and am tired of finding the steering stuck. I got one of steering nuts with a grease zerk and want to put that on in hopes it improves the situation.

Is it as simple as removing the nut on there now, disconnecting something, and putting the new nut on?

Re: steering nut question

It is that simple but that may not solve the problem for good.
I would remove the steering cable from the steering tube and clean out all of the old hard grease and rust with a round bristtle brush and some penetrating oil.

Re: steering nut question

For the penetrating part of the solution I recommnd deep creep, the stuff seems to clean everything.

**even partially dried undercoating from arm** :)
