Steering Play

I just purchased a 1997 Wellcraft 20' Eclipse with Teleflex steering system. It seems like there is a lot of play in the steering wheel and on a full left turn the steering is initially hard to return to the straight position. The boat seems to track okay but I was wandering if there is anything that I can check or do about these issues. Any help would be appreciated.

disconnect steering link at motor, now test motor and steering see which is at fault.

Andy, There are some adjustments, but not one for play, on most steering systems. Set the wheel to the center and see if the motor is straight. If not, the link arm ususlly has some adjustment to make it so. Also rack and pinon systems may have the ability to reset the rack to more center the motor.
