Hey everyone!

As I write this post I'm working with my dad on our glastron v 153. Boat is new pretty new to us. To start off the steering was tough and hard to pull the wheel unless you yank on it really hard. previously we took the tube part off the back and un hooked the ram/cable from the motor. Motor moves freely but cable unhooked is still tight as hell.

so today as we speak my dad and I attempted to unhook the cable from the front. COuldn't get it. Everytime i go to loosen the nut that goes to the helm it turns back. I have read you need to turn wheel. Never does it talk of which way to turn the wheel so we tried to turn it both ways still nothing. Right now currently we are pissed, greasy, and speechless. I have take off the steering wheel to try and figure out or see something. I see the gears and everything and without the wheel i tried to loosent the nut and still the gears and nut gave me trouble...

WE NEED HELP PLEASE!!!

Later today i will post pictures. Just want to get this done and figured out!

Re: Steering problems!

Ayuh,... replace the cable, 'n helm as a set.....

after the price of a new cable, the helm is danm near free anyways...

Besides, the chances are slim to none that you'll match the existin' cable...

Bondo I like your idea but if I can save 115 bucks I am going too. Also I was able to remove the cable. after unbolting the cable from the helm we saw that the gears moved fine in the helm. Heres the pics:

http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h401/Cowboyup94/PA160106.jpg In this picture we took the helm out and unbolted it

http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h401/Cowboyup94/PA160107.jpgHeres the gears
http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h401/Cowboyup94/PA160108.jpg after messing around we hooked the wheel back up not connected to the dash but up to the helm but it wouldnt turn or move then.

http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h401/Cowboyup94/PA160109.jpg heres same thing different angle
http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h401/Cowboyup94/PA160111.jpg different view with close up

So for today we found out a few things
1:gears work in helm
2:with cable unbolted the ram thing inside the helm moved but the ram in the back of the boat did not
3:There is no lack of grease (i know because i was covered in it) or chaeffing on the metal gears
4:Cable steering systems suck!

Can anyone think of anything or is it just a bad/frozen cable?

Re: Steering problems!

Thats an OLD round rack. Throw it away and replace with new helm and cable set.
