I have a 1970 Starcraft V-150 15Ft with a 85 hp Mercury and the steering system works but I want to upgrade it.. it has a cable system that mounts to the transom instead of mounting to the engine I want to switch that part over..

I don't see any name on my steering box so I don't know what brand it is..

So I want to replace the whole system

Do I want to go with a Rack system or like the one I have??

You have many options here. See iboats availabaility of systems.

Alot will depend on your engine. Do you have a "tilt tube" on the engine? A tilt tube is a tube that runs from side to side just under the front part of the engine. This tube is used for single cable type steering systems.

If you do not have one, you'll have to stick with a transom mounted clamp block system, or purchase a tilt tube retrofit kit, if you can find one.

When it comes to steering systems, there are many choices. Rack or rotary, your choice. I prefer rotary because they take up less space under the dash.

i perfer rotary, less space, easier to install and maintain. a picture of your motor current set up would surely help.
