Steering Slip, Motor RPM drop and screw hole leak

Hi Guys,
Ok, I took my 16ft Trihull out for the first time this past weekend and had a great time, though there were some minor problems.
1.) The steering slipped when I put a lot of pressure on it, I could feel the gears slip. I'm planning on making sure the gear housing is all tight by tightening the nuts. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

2) While at full throttle for a bit I lost RPM like it was starving for fuel. I was able to blow it out by reving the motor and then was fine, happened a couple of times. I noticed it doesn't have an in-line fuel filter, so I'll try installing one to see if it helps. The fuel might be bit old too.

3) The owner before me installed some seats in which case the screws were too long and went all the way through the bottom of the hull below the helm seat. I attempted to fill the holes with marine tek but after the trip I noticed where the screw holes are the Marine Tek came off. What are your suggestions for filling the screw holes in such a bad location.

Thanks,
rbbrox

do you have any history on the engine, is it new to you? make, model #, yr., hp.. how long has it sat, since your running it? did you remove the screws and use shorter ones? did you try to feather out the holes to give the marine tex and better grip? do you have rack or rotary steering?

this is rotary

Screws through the hull - gah! Doncha just hate stuff like that?

Anyway, as previously mentioned you need to rough up the area a bit and give the epoxy a place to bond to. Then, apply the epoxy "proud" and sand to a thin skin.

The engine is an 84 70hp Evinrude. It was sitting for 1 month. I have a rotary. I attempted to remove the screws but they are glassed over. I ground the screws down about 1/8" into the hull, so it was rough though I didn't make a wide divit it was more a pit.

couple of more questions, did you try pumping the primer bulb, when it lost rpm's, did the primer bulb collaspe, when losing rpm's. are the fuel lines old and cracking. the steering is probably due a replacement cable. the number should be printed on the black bart of the cable. buy try greasing the the pivot on the motor first. it is the most over looked grease fitting, tilt the engine all the way up. and look for it
