Hi, I have a 115 Suzuki, with a rotary Teleflex steering system. The steering wheel is loose and seems to slip sometimes. As you can see in the picture, behind the wheel it is sticking out. Thanks in advance for the help!
I looked at my rotary helm, Ultraflex brand, but it does not look like yours. Not sure what to tell you to do next. Maybe one of the experts will pick this thread up now that the server is no longer a problem. Good luck!
The shaft that the steering wheel is attached to has a gear on it (the pinion gear) that turns the larger gear in the bigger part of the housing that moves the cable. The button that has popped out looks like it has been hammered on as though it has come out before. What probably is happening is the steering shaft moves so far that the two gears lose mesh and hence you feel the slippage. I would strongly suggest you not operate the boat until this is fixed as engine torque steer can pull the engine to one side and if this happens at wide open throttle you may have a very serious accident. I would not risk trying to push this back in place without a way to hold it there. This component was swedged in place and you very likely don't have the tools to do that. I seriously doubt a shop would either. If it were mine, the helm would be replaced.
