My steering is frozen on my 05 Doral 190 BR 115 hp Merc Outboard. I tried removing the cable. This freed up the steering wheel, but the motor was still frozen to the port side. Pushing and pulling in both directions hasen't helped either. I just heated up the Swivel Bracket with a torch and greased and regreased the ***. I had the swivel bracket heated from top to bottom. Pushed and pulled on the motor over and over, but still no luck. I am out of ideas. The problem definitely seems to be coming from somewhere in the Swivel Bracket however. Does anyone know of anything else I can try to get this motor unstuck? Any other home remedies for freeing up the swivel bracket? Help is greatly appreciated!

Well, its probably corroded into one piece. Most times the swivel gets all loose, and then needs machining and new bushings. About all I can say is keep at it with the heat (like Oxy/Acet)...they can be a bear to break

this may sound like a stupid question, but, did you unhook the cable at both ends?

Thanks for the advice. (BTW: Cable was unhooked at both ends). Where would you recommend I place the heat? I have been getting the entire shaft very hot which is timely. Is there an area where I should focus the heat on more (is the corrosion usually towards the top, middle or bottom of the shaft)? Also, should I continue to grease and grease the *** even though the grease is just coming out at this point? Thanks a million!

Re: Steering Stuck - Out of Ideas...

I replaced the cable in my boat when only 3 years old and used exclusively in fresh water. I unsuccessfully tried everything to get mine loose and nothing helped.

In the removal process I cut it into 3 pieces, because it had a kink at the engine interface and I figured that was where it was frozen, 2 of the cuts being very near the ends and all 3 pieces were frozen......I never would have broken it loose.

Teleflex-Morse makes a nice No-Feedback system if you choose to redo it.

Mark, he said he removed the cable and had good wheel movement...Imagine the cable too. His problem is the swivel. .. had an old merc that was froze up in the swivel
