I have a 99 bayliner capri. I took it out to lake last weekend and had to use all I could to steer it. it's a 120 mercury force outboard. Does anybody know what the heck is going on? Does somebody have a diagram that can illustrate how to grease the thing?

Re: Steering trouble

Let's narrow this down a bit. Disconnect your steering from the motor and turn the wheel - if it's still difficult you can start by looking at that system.
If that feels good then turn your motor by hand and feel that resistance.
If that's hard then look under the cowling where it joins the shaft unit. There should be some zerk fittings in that general area.
Make sure you use a good waterproof grease. ;)

Re: Steering trouble

gc, I've decided to replace the r & p system. I'm having trouble getting the rod out of the slot by the engine. Am I forgetting to losen some bolt or something?

Re: Steering trouble

I guess the real question is how do you remove from the engine? I can't get it out. Seem's like it's in a bind.

Re: Steering trouble

There should be a snap clip or screw clamp on the motor housing itself. Just follow your cable back through and take a good look. Also, if the cable has in any way managed to get caught or crimped it might be a bear to get out - might also be the source of your initial problem.
Post a pic - :D

I have a bayliner 16 ft. fish and ski with a 85 focre one motor, 1986 and it don't run straight
When running straight the boat is turned a little to the left and when you try to straighten it, you turn right ???
