Too low provides drag which affects both the hole shot and top speed.

The wrong angle can affect planing or porpoising.

Start with the motor at the correct height, and the trim adjusted so that the AV plate is parallel with the water. For a little boat with small HP that's probably going to be where you want it. For big boats with lots of HP moving up and out is the ticket. That's why they make power trim and jack plates.

A little weight in the bow may help also . Place a sandbag or 2 in the bow and see how that effects the performance. A nice folding 3hp backup motor in a case would be good .

That's one approach, I guess. To me, ADDING weight to an already slow boat is what I personally would avoid.

I'd love to find that elusive folding outboard. As an outboard collector I actually DO have one, but the cases are hard to find. If you DID find one it would likely be worth more than the whole boat.

A bit of Ballast in the Bow, may allow the boat to plane, and the top speed will be higher, so sometimes a bit more weight, in the right place can mean more Speed

Jim I have a folding Yachtwin also that needs a case …. Using a duffle bag till I find one ..

I would use a Wooden or Metal Crate, just to protect it, a Duffle Bag offers none

Yeah I do have it wrapped up in a thick blanket to protect it some .

Interesting about these folding motors. I hate to say it, but I may have let one slip through my fingers. I was doing some work on a house of a former hoarder a couple years ago. The place was absolutely stuffed full of all sorts of junk. Some of it was nice stuff though. There was a small outboard in a case that at the time I had no use for. It looked nearly new and it soon disappeared. I coulda bought it though, I prob shoulda made an offer......

I'm currently negotiating to pick up a Lundt that has a steering wheel and a 50 HP Chrysler. Kind of an oddball motor and the guy doesn't have titles for anything. In my state you can apply for a title for a boat that never had one, but this was previously registered and plated in IN. So I'm unsure if you can just apply for a title when you basically lost the original. Seems to me that would make it awfully easy to steal a boat.
