In the process of replacing a Steering wheel on my 1985 Astro Glass bass boat. I order a replacement with a tapered hole and when I removed the old steering wheel it was a different configuration (three small bolts holding it on to an adapter that is held with one main bolt. Has anyone seen this? I was wandering if the adapter comes off revealing the tapered shaft. I would hate to start tearing it apart and damage the adapter forcing it off. Any help with this matter would greatly be appreciated.

Re: Steering Wheel Replacement

Ayuh,... Put the wheel back on with the 3 bolts, then with the Big Nut, screwed onto the shaft Just Flush,...
Put yer knees under the wheel, 'n push it Off, as hard as you can,...
Then WACK the Big Nut with a BFHammer...

It'll Pop right off...
