21 foot Four Winns inboard, 220hp 4.3l V6 OMC…. The issue I am having is that I am hearing a high pitch “wine” from the rear engine compartment which is steering related. I believe I have power steering and not hydraulic because I checked the fluid level and all appears to be ok.. When I’m running at about 3000 rpms and turn slightly to right I hear the pitch I hear nothing when I slightly turn to the left. I hear the same pitch at lower random rpms as well….

Do I have air in the line??

If so how do I bleed the system??

How do I check to see if I have a leak??

Can this wait till end of season? Will I be OK?

Any internet addresses for troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Steering

Power steering IS hydraulic. If you have air in the lines, rotating the steering lock to lock several times should clear it. If you have a leak there will be evidence of fluid and the level would not show full. It may just be a noisy pump. Is the belt tight?
