Found and old Elgin Runnabout in a wharehouse. I do not know what year it is...great shape but needs some TLC. From doing a little research I found that Sears made boat kits for this 14' boat that was either a runnabout or a fishing boat. I want to restore into a runnabout with steering. Just not sure where I can purchase the items needed to install I am assuming a cable pulley syetsm. Anyone know where I can get the parts???

Re: Steering

You can buy what they call "steering in a box" from just about any dealer and it includes the console, usually a cable with the stick on the engine steering, and mounting hardware. The one I priced was around 250.00.

Re: Steering

Assuming you want to use the original style closed loop pull/pull cable system, rather than the modern single cable push/pull type,
Glen-L stock complete cable steering systems, wheel, drum, cable, pulleys, tension springs, the lot.
Complete kit to fit your boat is $212.82, or you can just buy individual components. Click on "Boatbuilding Supplies" on the left of their homepage and scroll down to "Small Power Boat Steering".
Alternatively old systems crop up regularly on eBay, often just needing a clean up and maybe a replacement cable, that's where I got my drum from.

Re: Steering

There you go, that's exactly what you need, well spotted BB! I'd suggest a new cable though, get a stainless steel one made up with proper metal end loops.
Print out the installation drawing on the Glen-L site too, it shows a couple of options and some quite important dimensions.
