I have always used a square throwable placed on the rear seat for boarding. I am in my seventh season and no visable wear and the seats are white too.

I never really minded so much as long as they were barefoot. It's when they shoes I cringe.

I do think the seats are meant to handle it for the most part but I very much agree with an above post mentioning something covered both sides to throw on the seat. This does two things. its not only protects the actaul pat you step on but it also spreads the weight out throughout the cushion so that the internal compnents do not get damaged either

My old searay had a removeable seat with a step under it for boarding. Bare feet don't really hurt a seat but someone stepped in one once with a shoe on and that seat had marks in it right up until I sold the boat. Shoes pick up a lot of chemicals on them from walking across the parking lot and to this day I don't wear them in the boat.

My cuddy has a starboard side transom door and decent sized swim platforms either side of the outboard. Guests just step off the dock onto the platform and through the door. Really helps out my Dad who's 81 and can't climb over things.

However, my previous boat was a 'step off the gunwale onto the seat' job for him and I didn't worry, I occasionally used a towel if I remembered... at least he spent time with us and we enjoyed many days out on the boat, fishing, talking and watching the World go by.

His arthritic hips are one reason I went for the bigger boat with transom door, but I suggest either way, don't worry about the seats too much and enjoy your boat with your friends and family.

If and when the seats get torn or too dirty to stand any more, recovering is cheap, much cheaper than the cost of worrying about people who step on them.
