Hi Guys,

Im currently researching and about to purhcase the bits and pieces required to put a half descent stereo into my recently acquired 2006 Bayliner 175. For reference its got a 3.0L TKS Mercruiser with alpha one stern drive..... The boat is mainly to be used for fishing and music will not be on then but for when I take mates wake boarding and for days on the river it will be nice. Dont plan on running the stereo on without the engine on for any longer than a few minutes at most (when picking up skiers from water ect...)

What I'd like to know is will I need to run a second battery for a setup like this or do you think it will be fine?

AND

Whats the best way to wire the power? Direct + & - for the amp and head unit with the remote for the headunit and amp linking the two and the "accessories" power from the headunit to the "acessories" switch on my dash?

Anyway this is what I'm going to put in:

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Until you mentioned adding an amp (of unknown power) you could have gotten by with one battery. However adding the amp means big power draw and that puts you into a second battery - a deep cycle. Wire the stereo to that battery. Add a dual battery switch or ACR if you feel you will be making long enough runs at 1/2 throttle or more to actually charge the deep cycle. Otherwise add an on-board charger and plug in at the dock.

The amp is 210watts PEAK

Hmmmmm that makes it a bit more painful as Im not 100% sure where I can fit another battery in my rig..... Even if I just use the system with the engine running with an amp will it be dangerous?

Perhaps I should install the system with out the sub and if im not happy with it then get it and and a second battery. Food for thought.

You indicate you will only operate the system with the engine running! My sixth sense says that will not be true 100% of the time. The time you do NOT have the engine running is when you will find yourself "powerless" and begging someone for a tow or a jump. You either do this right or you don't do it. But if you happen to boat on water where you can see shore from anywhere, then all you need is a cell phone and/or a paddle.

Yes im always in water where shore is within easy view!

What about if I keep a "Jump" pack on board?
