I've done some research and have not found anyone with the same problem. I just bought a 1988 Celebrity 190V with a 4.3 mercruiser Alpha one. On the lake the other day the power trim woukd only go down. Trailer button and up button would only occasionally. Simple enough, changed the solenoid and everything was well. While changing it I noticed an auxiliary power and ground wire attached to the solenoid power wire and frame. The wire was routed up to the stereo. I'm sure it did not come from the factory like this. Next trip, same trouble. Up only worked occasionally. Down was working fine. Now sitting in the garage everything works fine. The stereo being on or off did not seem to have any effect on wether it would work or not. I'm going to remove the stereo wires and hope that fixes the problem.

Anyone have any other suggestions or things to check while down there? The fact that it worked intermittently made me think that it could be a faulty ground as well. anyone with a similar problem? Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the quick reply! You think there is any problem with the routing of the stereo wires to the trim unit? Thought I should reroute to the fuse bank.
