I have no experience with brazing aluminum, dont even know know if its possible like it is with steel. I checked with an aluminum welding shop here at the lake......its a $20 repair to run a 1 inch bead down that crack. Clean it down to bare metal and take it to a welding shop, shouldnt be too bad. MIG or TIG its quick and easy.

If a "professional" welding shop is going to use MIG, leave and find one that does it the preferred way with TIG.

Bruce, I agree with you that TIG is best for aluminum especially if its very thin or very thick stock, however one project I built was a clone of a Triton aluminum snowmobile trailer. It was done all with a MIG welder and that was 15 years ago and its still going strong. A manufacturer here a the lake that makes aluminum steps for docks and railings for boats also does all their work with MIG.

MIG welders are all typically DC. You need AC to do a good aluminum weld, especially on cast.

JB WELD BABY!!! Aluminum welder wanted $200 and that is not happening. I think my superior JB Weld ability should hold this crack for another 20 years.
