Re: Stern lifting prop

When I had my 21 ft bow rider I used a 17 inch three blade prop. I tried a Four blade and the planning wasn't as good and the vibration was awful. How many people are in your boat ? I had at the most four adults .I always put the heavy one up front. I told them I didn't want the boat to come out of the water. It had a 230 hp Merc I/O

Usually the boat is pretty packed full at the min. 4-5 adults and 4-5 kids and we load the bow pretty full. When we ski, it's the same, i have two older kids, who like to tube and ski, and they bring there friends along, so thats five people min.

Re: Stern lifting prop

Well its a 21' open bow...probably 3500 lbs wet it has to have a 21 degree dead rise with 1.5 gearing...If all that is right.. a heavy deep v does have a bit more of a time struggle getting out of the hole ...although there are some that would call a 20-21 shallow rise

You seem not intrested in top speed so here's a prop in a 16 that has some of the strongest lifing quality's you will find....
Turbo 2+2 TH Series

.......:D dont ask

Get that in a 16 pitch and you will be happy maybe you will keep the same top end...That prop line has tremdous lift

Just google the above it should take you to a site that there priced right..Yep it comes up good luck

I know that the boat is 3300 lbs completly empty, i don't know if that is the base engine and drive weight, i have a bravo which weighs more, and a 8 cyl. weighs more than a six, so i'm guesing dry i'm at 3500 at least, then you add 51 gal of fuel, that a few more hundred pounds, then gear and stuff, i'm thinking 3900 lbs with out people. I can't find any information on the deadrise, but i can tell you that it is a very deep hull, from the inside my 3 year old can't see outside the boat, so it's almost 3' feet, and standing outside the boat the gun wale is over my head when sitting on the trailer.

I'll check out the turbo prop, thats' the second suggestion on that prop.

Re: Stern lifting prop

I'm sorry, forgot to add that. Looking for something at holeshot, with such a heavy stern it just digs in and pops the bow up in the air making it take quite a while to get onto plane. once on plane i have no problems. I know that putting trim tabs would help me greatly but i am not to excited about drilling more holes into my transom.
There's one thing you should consider checking out on your bravo drive to see if it's in the correct position, You should ensure that the "celery stick" is in the correct position.

The "celery sticks" = (the trim insert, Trim Adjustment stick) If the stick is in the wrong position on the newer style bravo drive, it will affect your time to plane immensely.

See number 30 in this link below for an idea of what and where it goes.

Also see page 3-5 in this next link for directions of how to correctly install the celery stick between the bravo's 1 thru 3 drives.

A good stern lifting propeller from mercruiser is the Revolution 4.

Here's a good selction of propellers that would help your boat out.

And here's Mercruisers list of propellers they offer.

If your looking to try to have the best all around propeller for your boat, Then the Mercruiser propeller would be a good choice for you to seriously consider as well.:)

Good luck with your decision.;):)

Re: Stern lifting prop

I'll have to double check the position on that trim peice. I took off my trim cylinders to repaint them, so maybe i didn't put it back rite. Also i' have been looking into the Rev 4, i think it's between that and the High five. Thanks for the links, i'll be checking on it as soon as i get the boat back out of storage.

Re: Stern lifting prop

Hi

I have been reading the posts and would like to offer my experience. I have a 22 ft deck boat with a 5.0 MPI and alpha drive. The planing was horrible, so I started trying various 4 blade SS props. I was also mislead by my tach which was reading 300 rpm too high, and the boat is only 3 years old. So, get a laser tach and confirm the motor rpm. Otherwise you will be mislead on prop performance and could do engine damage.

By far, the best prop for my boat was the Powertech OFS4 15 x 17 SS. To make a long story short, I went from a prop slip of 22% to 8% and excellent grip. Call Marcus Clemens at Powertech and he can help dial your boat in. That guy is a prop wizard.

I hope this helps, but your really must confirm your rpms and boat speed before anything else. If you have an iPhone, there is a free app that will allow you to check the speed, and it is very accurate.
