Stern light replacement choice opinions

I am replacing the stern light on my 280 regal because the chrome ring is pitted.The choices at the marine store are an Attwood Stainless ring with a regular bulb for only $15(i like the idea of stainless) or a Perko chrome over brass with a glass fuse- like bulb for $30.Which sounds better and is there an advantage of either type bulb???Charlie

Option 1: Stainless (no corrosion), Regular bulb (auto store, $2), $15 (cheaper).<br /><br />Option 2: Chrome (rusts/pits, your current problem), Special bulb (more expensive, likely boat-store item only unless it's a dome-light bulb for a car as well). $30 (buy two of the other lights).<br /><br />Option 1 for me......

Thats what I was thinking but was curious if the "dome light " type bulb was better or brighter over a distance.Charlie

I just bought the Perko style because I wanted the low-glare lamp fixture to minimize the light cast down on the cockpit during night boating.
