Sterndrive Unit Removal

I am going to remove my sterndrive this weekend. I have downloaded the file from this site (thanks). The process seems really easy from the manual, but I wanted to check and see if I am missing anything. I have built a rack on rollers to hold the sterndrive unit. Seems like all there is to do is place the rack in place, unbolt the power trim cylinders, remove the 6 bolts holding the unit onto the bell housing, then roll the unit back on the rack while making sure the shift cable releases.

Is that all I have to do? Seems too easy

6 bolts could be a Cobra too.

If it's a MC (Black in color) you MUST place the shifter in forward or you will have a hard time getting the drive off and probably damage some stuff in the process.

If it's a COBRA (Silver in color) just put it in neutral and pull it off. It may be a little tough when the U-Joints get to the bellows, just use a long screwdriver and turn it back and forth a little to help get it off.

But when you ask a specific question, well it's hard to give a specific answer if we have no clue what you are working on, eh?

Sorry.... It is a 1992 mercruiser bravo outdrive on a 290 Searay Sundancer powered by a 502 mercruiser

On a Bravo, that pretty much covers it.

I got the sterndrive off today... Here is a picture of the rack I made. Going to start to pull the motor tomorrow.

I was thinking about taking the outdrive in to get it rebuilt while I get the motor rebuilt. Any suggestion on where to take it to get that done?

And you want to get it rebuilt because there is a problem specifically... or simply because you have it off the boat and it seems like a good idea?

Although the unit is a 1991 I haven?t had any problems. I just wanted to be proactive and rebuilt it before something goes wrong. The boat is kept in the water and I don?t have a trailer for her, so if something goes wrong it is going to be expensive to pull the boat. I thought while I have it off it would be the perfect time.
