Hello: I am a very new owner of a 2010 Sea Ray 175 bowrider I/O and a couple of weekends ago, my prop hit bottom and dented the prop. I thought I forgot to raise the drive but when I put it back on the lift, I noticed the sterndrive is not raising all the way. Maybe just one third of the way up but it goes all the way down. I hear the motor running when I operate the trim switch and it stops when it is supposedly all the way up but when I check it is only up part of the way. Any suggestions? I must say, I know nothing about engines, motors etc. Are there any simple things I need to check before I take it to the mechanic?

Hi there, welcome to iboats!:) Sounds like you are only trimming the drive up and the trim up limit switch located on the gimbal ring is activating. The limit switch is designed to stop the drive about half way so you don't over trim the boat while underway. Item #6 is the limit switch. http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...&bnbr=90&bdesc=GIMBAL+RING+AND+STEERING+LEVER

The trim up button on your shifter control handle should be a double throw switch. Holding/pushing it up with light effort will only activate the trim up, pushing the switch with more effort, you should feel and hear a second click. The second click will override the trim up limit switch and bring the drive the rest of the way up. Once the drive is up, the trim motor will continue to run but you should hear the trim motor change sounds. Also if the trim gauge is adjusted correctly, you should see it stop moving once the drive is all the way up. Hope this is it, good luck.:)
