Re: sterndrive will go in/down only

Are you getting any sound from the motor or solenoid? any clicking back there. The solenoid needs power as well as ground to work. A bad connection on either would do it. Before you go after the trim motor, test the solenoid is closing.

Easy test is to reverse your up down wires at the switch. That'll tell you if the switch is bad, or point to something further down the line (wire, ground problem, solonoid)

Re: sterndrive will go in/down only

ok thanks for help guys turns out it was solenoid wiring as I rewired it the same way as the old solenoid turns out it must have been wrong but I have to motor working in both directions but the outdrive doesn't raise my question is this and will sound extremely stupid the psi gauge reads 15psi what should the psi be and does it build pressure or does it have to be charges since there is a valve stem on the top?

again thanks and sorry for the stupid questions

tHanks,

Re: sterndrive will go in/down only

ok cool I was slightly worried

I assume the simplest way to get to them is to take the bolts out and lift the motor out to get to them?

Thanks again will post my results,

Ayuh,... I can't see 'em,... Look on the corners, under the round part,...

2 screws, nearly side by side, 1 is fill, 1 is vent, fill til it comes out the vent....

Here is from the manual. While the manual calls for engine oil, check it before you fill it. If it's red, it's probably ATF. Best not to mix the two.

Re: sterndrive will go in/down only

thanks that will help a lot I checked the fluid and it is all milky so I guess tomorrow I will drain the system and refill it. I would assume I can treat it like car brakes and just keep bleeding until the fluid runs clean?

Thanks,
Reg
