Yesterday I lost steering, disconnected steering cable from arm and cable and wheel moves left and right fine, which I assume is a good thing, doing some searching on this site, the" tilt tube" seems to be my issue how do I remove it,loosened both nuts tube slides to the left. The tube is well greased what would make it fail.I have a spare parts motor, hoping this is an easy fix with the help of the great people on this site.Motor is a manual tilt also. Also what failed, what is inside of the tube,to make it freeze up?

Ok, so the cable end if corroded into the tilt tube? Rock it with a pipe wrench on the end where the link attaches. If it moves at all, it will loosen up. Use lots of penetrating oil and some cloth to gradually clean it up while spraying and rocking it. When you get it moving, turn it all the way out and clean and regrease it.

got the tilt tube freed up and was able to see that the stainless steel rod that continues thru the tilt tube had a slight bend, asked my boy if he might have hit something, with our waterlevels so low,he said yes and oops forgot to tell ya that dad..Needless top say a lil persuasion with a maul and she is steering just fine.Hope I have no future issues but if I do I know where to look for answers, this site is great for boaters

Glad you got it working. If he hit something hard enough to bend the steering rod, he may have damaged the gearcase or midsection. You might check it out.
