Stevens GearcaseTester w/pics

I recently picked up a used gearcase tester. The tester pressurizes the gearcase fine and gauge displays pressure. My question is about the gauge...which also reads vacuum. Is this tester also supposed to somehow also able to vacate the gearcase by using a different pumping action? I went to the Stevens Instrument Co's website, but this model of tester is not longer listed.

Anyone use one of these exact models before? Sorry if this is the wrong forum...I wasn't sure where to post.

Nice. I wish I had one of those!

Traditionally you do test a LU with pressure and then vacuum. So never having seen that device you have before but because the gauge shows vacuum I would assume it does it. Is there no button to turn or dial or anything to switch? Or maybe reverse components etc? Anything?

Can the plunger and gauge be reversed end to end? Or is there a small valve somewhere or inside to reverse? I'm just guessing here.

Where would one find a MityVac 04050?

No valves except a bleed screw...it may in fact be a single function unit, but the vac just confuses the issue...works great for pressure however.

Stevens Instrument has one pump for pressure (S-34) and another for vacuum (V-34). They are different and also have a different check valve. You cannot use one to do both pressure and vacuum.
