sticks in forward gear

I have a 1995 mercury black max 175hp and when cruising in forward geer I go to shift into nuetral and it will stick untill I put it into reverse geer. Any ideas on this?

Have you had the foot off recently and has the problem begun since you reinstalled it (if you had it removed)?

no the foot has never been off I think ill just do a cable adjustment and see were I am from there
