Re: Sticky Situation

I've got emails sent to the park and marina. It is now a waiting game to see if they call me direct or email me back.

As for children services, I'm going to go ahead and give them a call. His excessive drinking with his girls around is the only thing that I have witnessed. He has the girls wear their life vests while on the dock, they are always clean, fed at the right times, he never raises his voice to them, he does supervise them, and never leaves them by themselves. The girls are not brats, they play, never loud, they listen to adults, and they always ask instead of demanding. It is his drinking that night that my wife and I saw.

On the other hand, there is a family at the other end of the dock that doesn't drink and has some kids the same age. These kids run up and down the dock, screaming/crying, talks back, jumps on peoples boats, and basically out of control. One incident that they caused was when they went around and untied some of the boats at the dock!.

This is why I am a bit confused on calling children services. Maybe I should report them as well. I just hate to open a can worms on the dock. Many of us oldtimers/emptynesters like our freedom to sit on our deck and drink a couple of cold ones. When the authorities get involved, that may end the many years of having the benefit of drinking on our dock as it is prohibited by the park rules. I'm afraid that this can backfire in my face and mark me as a big snitch on the dock. Its sure is nice to have people at the dock help retrieve your boat when your returning from the lake. Doing it yourself when the wind is blowing, tight quarters to operate, plus the expensive boats next to you can make it rough doing it alone. I have seen this happen and I don't want to be the outcast on the dock.

Keep in mind, my main complaint is his loud music. Hopefully things will have changed by this coming weekend. My wife won't be there, so I can get a bit more vocal on my thoughts about his behavior (with my video running :D)

As for the fish guts, I'm going to let him know that if I see him doing that again, I will report him as I don't like to swim in water that has fish remains in it. It could be that Mr. Obnoxious is not aware that it is against the law. I think a fair warning first is at hand.

I know if I'm ignorant to a law, I would want someone to tell me first instead of getting me busted for it. I'm sure many of you would want the same treatment......I'll post more once I get some feed back from the emails......Thanks......SS

I feel for ya. Nothing is more irritating than some fool bombarding others ears with his music. And mean a fool, when ya brought up the dry ice bottle in the water.
So you are dealing with an idiot.
We kinda have an unwritten rule here quiet HOA and marina. If any music can heard over your property line, ITS TO LOUD.
We have no loud music boats in the marina, and thats OK by me. I go down to the boats for peace and quiet.
A bunch of people partying a one time day only event fine, not every time they go out. We respect each other.
Why don't you try getting a petition together? See if you can first get enough people willing to stand up for THEIR rights.
Wish ya luck..sad one idiot can ruin it for others, and not even care.

Sounds like a guy I used to hang with back in my he** raisin days. He kept a 36 liveaboard at the marina and regularly pissed off a bunch of people with the same kind of behavior. He was a great guy untill he got a couple of six packs in him. The others only took it for so long and got together and sent a registered letter to the marina office that they were ready to bail outa there. The marina refused to renew his contract and he had to relocate. Seems to have worked in that case..;)

Not an easy call SS. Probably not as cut and dry as it seems and arm chair quarterbacking is easy. Maybe he's being prodded by the people further down and bowing down to the pressure. I'd do what my gut instinct tells me. Hope it works out for all concerned.

I pplaud your resolve in trying to handle this in an appropriate manner, and I whole heartedly agree with taking this in front of the marina. They problably have rules on the books against this type of behavior and if this is brough to their attention a couple time by different people, the marina will handle it. I don't think child services should be brought in to this, that could have way more negative effects in the long run.

Yeeee Haaaaa! Got responses from my email. It seems that I'm not the only one to complain. There were 8 others that also voiced their opinions on the loudness of his music.

This Friday, he is to meet with the park officials and the owner of the marina to explain to him that it will only take one more complaint and he is gone. (without a refund for his dock fee to boot!) I just hope when he gets his chain jerked that he will be a good boy afterwards..........SS

I know I have 33LP around here with Polka Hits of the 50's. Crank that baby up as loud as your equipment can handle and aim the speakers at him.!!:D:D

Dude! You gotta know that those Lawrence Welk era polka classic are just too bitchin to be played on some old, run of the mill stereo system! I have some buddies on the concert business ... how about I borrow a couple of 15,000 watt amp racks, some 400 pound EAW cabs & subs, and a mondo generator to run it all! I'll send the stuff right over!

Can you say "a one-a and a two-a" at 30,000 watts? :D
