So I’ve been searching forums for help on this topic and just can’t seem to find an answer ... I have a mercury 3.0 Sterndrive, I originally assumed I had a faulty steering cable after reading most forums, however when I disconnected the link from the steering rod, the wheel turns freely and the rod moves in and out effortlessly.
that brings the issue to the steering arm, and the upper swivel shaft.
if I attempt to manually move the drive back and forth it moves, but I have to use a lot of effort. Very stiff.
I tried clearing out built of corrosion behind the transom wall where the lever meets the swivel, and then shot it with some lubricant. Reattached the pin, and worked it in with the steering wheel, but it’s still very stiff.
I want to mention there is little to no “slop” on the drive. It seems to react immediately to the wheel. Just very hard to turn. It’s drivable. But very much an issue.
suggestions would be great. Thanks.
