Thanks to you all who offered suggestions.and especially to Reel Appeal.thanks. I have solved the problem with the stiff steering shaft by drilling and tapping the bush housing a quarter of the way down from the top of the bush, using penetrant and then heat and grease all is solved now. hopefuly fish in fridge by Sunday night.<br />regards Skeet***
