just picked up my 17ft Mako cc from having a new steering cable and helm put in.Old steering was very smooth but st. wheel would spin when turned too far either way so I was limited in tight spots.New set up is called a Rotec I believe.Smoothe but it takes effort to turn the wheel. It is not the motor pivot,it is surely the new components.I cleaned the new grease off the steering tube and lubed with oil and it got a tiny bit easier.Did my mech do something wrong??? Sorry I don't have an answer to your problem crazy, but I am interested to hear how you come out.

I had a 1970 Larson 17 1/2 foot I/O. It steered well, but about once or twice per time out boating, the wheel would snap an 8th of a turn. No warning, it would just go. I got used to it so it didn't freak me out anymore, but it sure was a pain in the beginning. Told the marina and asked if they could tighten something up... They said they couldn't and I'd have to live with it  Never got my problem fixed.

Jeff

That sounds similar to what I had so I had the helm and steering cable replaced.Side to side is fine now but it takes some effort to turn the wheel now. Before ,I could turn it with 1 finger.Charlie
