It can. I'm beginning to think this is what happened when I overheated this year.
The only hole I have that looks like the Pict. Is for exhaust witch by the way not much comes out. I sent Pict the last time I posted this but don't have them now.
The photo you posted in your other thread was of the hole at the top of this image:
My o/d doesn't have that hole.
If it doesn't, something is very wrong. The zerks actually mount to the swivel which is on the top of the lower unit inside the housing. You can just barely see one in this image:
The only way to access that grease point is through the hole or to disassemble the drive.
The hole you identified is at the black arrow in this mage, the one you need is the red arrow:
