Hey guys

My friend is having spark issues on a 1999 3cyl mercury 50hp.

Cylinder 2 and 3 wont spark.

Switched CDM's around same 2 and 3 still down.

Got a New stator and voltage regulator still 2 and 3 down.

He did have a small end of one of the magnets in the inside of the flywheel crack then come off. Very small though.

Only thing left to replace is the trigger , because the CDM's fire only on cyl 1 when swapped around, CMD's seem like all are good.

Can the trigger be making only 2 and 3 cyl not spark?
And will that SMALL chip in the end of one of the magnets do this?

Thanks,
DamianJP

A cracked magnet will make a noticably weaker voltage, depending on the size of the chip it should not be a problem.

Ignition troubleshooting is a process of elimination by TESTING.

As in your case, you have pretty much done this already by swapping the CDM's and replacing the stator to narrow the choices now to either a bad trigger or still the possibility of a shorted kill wire.

On the motor wiring harness find the Black wire with the thin Yellow trace line on it. Disconnect this wire from the harness and retest for spark to see if there is ANY change.

Do this BEFORE spending any more money on parts. Save your old stator, odds are that it is fine.
