I've gone through all wiring, gooped up coils, and can't. Figure why I can sometimes run at5500 then hit a bump and drops to 4500 where it stays most of the time. Usually not a problem cuz I have to maximize fuel to get to camp and back so I only run at 3000 / 20 MPH
Any ideas?

Not sure just what you mean by the term maxmize fuel. You've either got a fuel issue (the fuel supply is acting up) or a spark issue (one cylinder may be losing it's spark.) A couple of simple things to check: when you the engine starts to act up, have someone constantly prime the fuel hose bulb. This will force extra fuel into the carbs. If the engine runs better when you constantly prime the hose bulb, you have a fuel supply issue. (could be a bad hose, bad fuel pump, carb problem, etc.) When the engine starts to miss, remove the cowling and put an inductive timing light lead on each of the 4 plug wires and run at full throttle in gear. The flashes from the gun will indicate the spark quality on each plug. From the flashes in the gun you will be able to see misfires, no fires, weak firing.

Primer bulb trick no worky. The engine doesn't really feel like it misses, it's more like a slight surge running at about 3000 rpm. May need to try timing light as last resort but it will be hard as it only happens under load at higher speeds.
Maximize means I save a ton of fuel running at 3000 rpm (20mph) as opposed to 5000 rpm (30+mph)
