Still having trouble with my 1987 Merc

Hello Again,
The boat is still cranking, but not turning over. I have replaced the spark plugs and have gotten spark to the distributor cap. When I push the choke out I can hear the gas being squirted. The problem is, besides it not running, is that is it killing my batteries so quickly. I have squired some starting fluid into the air-intake and carb. What should be my next step?
Thanks!

Cranking and turning over is the same thing. So the engine is spinning with the starter motor but not starting, correct?????

When I push the choke out I can hear the gas being squirted.

I'm confused again. You don't push chokes, and they don't squirt fuel, so what are you talking about??????

The problem is, besides it not running, is that is it killing my batteries so quickly.

Yea, cranking an engine that doesn't start has that effect on batteries.

Yes it is spinning. When I was talking about the choke, I was pushing the throttle forward and then put it back into neutral to allow me to try and start it. About the batteries, they died quickly, so I thought I was doing something wrong, which it sounds like I am.

Exactly what is a "1987 Merc"
So far, all we know is that it has a "choke"

Are the Sparkplugs Wet, or Dry,..?? Are you getting Fuel to the cylinders,..??
