Still leaks

I posted a while back that I was having a leak from my valve cover. I have tried all I possibly could but it still leaking.

Taken valve cover and replaced gasket, cleaned surface from any contaminants and oil, reinstalled cover and tighten up bolts. I test it with my earmuff and everything seems good, no leaks. Rev to 4000 rpm and all is good. When I take it to the lake and get goin, it starts to leak under load( 3500-4000 tpm). Is there something else I should be looking for? Any other problems. I need to fix this leak, can anyone suggest anything else please...

Re: Still leaks

How about making sure the oil returns under the valve cover are clear to return oil to the pan.

Wich side should I look at?. If this are plugged, would they cause it to leak out of the cover?

You are stating that the valve covers leak when under load? But no other time?
Dd you use a tack adhesive for the gaskets?

Re: Still leaks

are ya tightening the bolts to spec.?

don't know if this applies to marine valve covers, but i was taught to tap the cover at the screw holes to get the cover mating surface back to close for flat. the cover can be pulled downward by the bolts from the last application. like i said, don't know if it applies to boats, i was taught that about cars. steel covers..

seems like if all else fails some glue would be in order... i had me a cantankerous leaky lifter cover on my engine. in the end. glue (gasket sealer) was what cured my leak..

This is correct, the holes should be tapped down with a brass or ball peen lightly to flatten them back. If not you could tighten until it too tight yet still the gasket could be loose under the sections where the bolts are not. I like to use a tack adhesive as well with my covers. I have gone as far as to use rtv, but that has to be done carefully so as to not get it in the oil.

Re: Still leaks

My cover is made out of aluminum, and there no signs of disformation around the bolt holes.

Re: Still leaks

There has to be some kind of gap. A properly sealed valve cover can be filled to the top without leaking. Your cover must be cracked, warped, chipped, etc.

You said you are torquing to spec. What is spec?

Can you see exactly where the oil is coming from?

Re: Still leaks

Is your engine properly vented? As in PCV valve/system or breather tube going up to the flame arrestor etc?

When you state it only leaks under load should tell us two things - more oil is getting in the valve cover area due to your RPM under load and finding an easy way out, and/or - it is building pressure under load (plugged vent/PCV system) and a less than perfect valve cover surface/seal is leaking etc.

As asked before: where/what part of the valve cover is it coming from? Has your re-gasket/sealing changed the leak at all?? If not, you sure it's actually a valve cover gasket leak?

Let us know
