still no pee

I just put in a new impeller kit on my 1968 6hp, and i used some weed wacker line to clear the pee hole, but it still doesn't pee. I had it on the lake, and it ran fine untill going back to the dock when it quit and i'm afraid it overheated. It started right back up but i shut it down just in case. What else could be wrong with ther water pump?

Hi there, I have a 9.8 mercury and they work almost the same way. What you can do is remove the exhaust plate (it is pretty easy to so) and you will see that some sand or debre might fall out. Second, you can remove the water jackets (where the spark plugs are) and see if there is any barrier in there.

Anywise, i suggest you (1) remove the lower unit and the exhaust plate, (2) force some water in the water tube (from the lower unit) and look inside the exhaust if water comes out, at least you can know for sure that water reaches up. Once you know that water gets to the powerhead, then it is a matter to verify where it is clogged.
Also open the flush, it might not help to free the telltale but at least you get some stuff out/if any!
