OMG! This stinks! '71 Johnson 50 elec shift (50ESL71). While at WOT it feels/sounds like about 3/4 power. A little background for you: Compression #1=110, #2=100, new fuel line/bulb/connector, carbs recent rebuild, new water pump (after overheat to the point of tapping[no temp gauge]), new NGK plugs, good spark test, timing advance going forward to stopper, squeeze bulb while WOT=no change, no tach but RPM's obviously not what they used to be. Whatcha think? What could the problem be or did I trash the engine when overheated? Any help would be greatly appreciated and has been appreciated for other previous issues.

Thanks!

If you heard tapping or knocking when overheating. Not good. :( Check for internal mechanical damage, etc.

Start with the correct Champion plugs. If you havent changed the head gasket yet, you need to do so. While you have the head off you can visually check the cylinder walls for damage.

Good luck!

Re: Still no power @WOT!

I wanted to say thanks to those who replied. Guys/gals like y'all are a great help to us little guys who don't want to spend millions on our P.O.S. boats. Im waiting for my coils to come in (hard as heck to find parts for this old motor) and Im working on ordering another carb kit (again) and head gasket.

Thanks again, I will repost after completing work to let y'all know how it went.
