stinger-wood?

What type of lumber is recommended for the stingers? My friend said ceder but isn't ceder soft? im afraid it might twist

Fir or spruce (regular dimensional lumber) is common.

I'd be seriously considering glue-lams though. A little spendier, but they don't cup or twist and they're already resin impregnated. We use 'em as dividers on the ice rink, and they get wet all the time. 10 years so far and no signs of rot.

I use CDX Plywood,+ Lots of Glass...........

I used pressure treated Douglas Fir plywood and laminated two pieces together. Try and get CCA treated ply and make sure it is very dry before glassing. Mine took 6 weeks to dry indoors. If you don't have dry pt ply then just use exterior grade Douglas Fir ply.

Cedar is not that strong and naturally contains resins and oils that I would think would inhibit bonding.

I used AB Exterior, laminating 1/2-inch plys to give a 1-inch stringer, with a layer of glass cloth between. Staggered the joints with glass reinforcement over the butt... Makes for a very strong stringer!

I use dry, solid pressure treated lumber in 2X or 5/4X thickness. I am always afraid that plywood (no matter how well protected) will delaminate if it gets wet. I also do not think plywood on its end, in thin strips is that much stronger than solid dimentional lumber.

One of the benefits of using pt ply is the pressure treating is able to penetrate more of the wood than with solid dimensional lumber. If using pt lumber, try and find CCA treated and use SS fasteners.

hey thanks guys

One more thing...what am i suppose to use to attach the stingers to the fiberglass? just epoxy and thats it? and are there different types of epoxy, if so which would you recommend
