Late last season I had trouble docking. When approaching the dock slowly in forward and moving the shifter to neutral position the drive would stay in forward at low RPMS. To slow my approach I would shift to reverse making it difficult to control the maneuver. This repeated multiple times where the drive would not go into neutral. Does this sound like the throttle cable needs to be replaced? Does anyone have recommended links on how to replace?
thanks,

1st thing that pops into my mind is the shift interrupter...have you checked it to make sure it is working?

Doesn't seem like the shift interrupt as that would just kill the engine or make it stutter, I'm thinking throttle cable.
When did the problem start?

if its not working at all it will not kill the ignition for that split second allowing the drive to come out of gear

Just adjust your lower shift cable and interupt switch. If cable is stretched replace it

The problem started at the end of last season. What is the shift interrupt switch-what does it look like and where is it located?

Thank you! I'll probably pick my boat up today and will check it out.

So...I checked it out and found that the plastic cam that swivels to depress the interrupt switch was moving on a plane not in line with the switch. The bolt at the swivel point had backed out so that the cam was not even touching the switch. Maybe the cable still needs adjusting but my scientific mind wants to only change one thing at a time to see what the true root cause was. Thank you for leading me down this path bman and Scott D! I'm taking it out tomorrow so I'll let you know how it works out.
