Hey all,
do you think its safe to tow a Stingray 240cs (dry weight is 4600 lbs) on a truck that has a tow rating of 6500lbs?
I know it will come close with the trailer and gear....what do you guys think. I really like this model and I have a truck I like that is rated 6500 towing capacity.

If your weight adds up to 6500 or less then there is no reason not to. Just realize that the 6500lb capacity is going to be with a weight distributing hitch - have you got one of those?

Please don't be offended but you keep asking the same question in new threads.... Better to keep it all together instead of constantly starting over.

Really nobody can answer the question of of you will be happy with the boat.... Some folks are never satisfied with a boat and always want bigger and some never want more than a 12' tinny.

As for the weight you need to actually weigh the actual boat that you intend to tow and add for gear and fuel. An example is mine... I haven't weighed it yet but it is listed at 7300 dry but by all counts is likely 10,000 with fuel water and gear.... And that's just a guess... I don't have to worry though because my truck can tow MUCH more.... You being so close tho can't afford to guess.

if its the same truck, Nissan Frontier, that you were talking about in your other thread...NOT a chance!

First of all, the dry weight of boat and trailer is going to be 6100#. Add 68 gallons of fuel(its capacity), brings it up to 6500#. Now you have to add gear(300 lbs), water(160 lbs) and you are heading over 6500# limit anyway.

I wouldn't even tow my 24' cuddy cabin boat with that truck. I have actually had it loaded up with gear so that it is up over 6500#. I tow it with a full size Chevy pick up truck and it gives it all it can handle.

You'd have to be towing dry with no gear or other weight to make this work. Not to mention that it would need to be pretty much flat terrain. Always best to leave some buffer in this area.

Which is totally impossible.

How willing are you to dare fate, Jat??

Inexperienced (not professionally trained) tow drivers should not attempt anything more than 70% of the vehicle tow capacity, and then only when the tow vehicle and the trailer are correctly equipped and rigged.

If you were my son or grandson I would not allow you to tow that rig with that truck, and I would not attempt it myself.
