morning, recently bought a 1997 lund tyee with a 175 e-tech, evinrude. the prop on it is a 14-1/4x19 in rough shape. what i am asking is if anybody can tell me what would of been on this boat when it was sold as a new package.
i am gearing up for this yrs fishing season and this prop can't be used for a base line due to its condition. if i know what was on it as a new package i can go from there. any info will be appreciated, thank you. rick

Re: stock prop with the boat

As I understand it the Tyee comes in different sizes likely affecting prop size. While the various sizes may have a factory prop
the final selection may depend on the typical activities of the new owner and may depend on your typical activities.
I would suggest getting your prop repaired probably cost effective on that size. Do some test drives lightly loaded and note overall performance and let us know your wot rpm and gps speed. If the 19 isn't right we may be able to suggest a replacement.
Then either sell the prop or keep for a spare.
There are programs where your can try various props with the understanding your buying new.Usually requires a deposit.
If I was to guess a 17" or 19" prop seems reasonable.Depending on the size and weight of the Tyee.

What rpms was the motor turning at WOT? An OMC Raker would allow you raise the engine up 1 to 1 1/2 inches and still have decent bow lift.
What year is your engine?

Agree with steelespike. repair prop, and go from there. That prop on there may have may be correct, if not beaten up. Always need a spare on the boat

If you run your numbers through the prop selector, it suggests a 19 pitch.

That is: boat/motor= 2000, 500 lb ple/gear, 25 gal gas= 2642 lb.

The smallest Raker is a 22".

Besides the aluminum version, the two best recommendations would be the a BRP 3 blade Viper or a 4 blade Cyclone in the same pitch.

Re: stock prop with the boat

thanks guys, talked to the reasonably local good prop shop around here and he says to re-build the one on it also. his info says it will be close. it is still cold up here and fishing opens next weekend, pickerel, and i am not going to pull the boat in and out playing with props in this water, the ice just went out a week ago or so. the motor is a 97 as the with the boat. i am also thinking i might just stay with the aluminum for awhile till i get my feet wet with this fishing thing. grew up a fish nut till my mid 20's, 40 yrs ago, and just getting back at it.
my last 3 boats have been 2 formulas and a switzer that i still have and a couple of bigger cruisers before that so this is going to be a learning curve for a bit. being a 2 stroke will be another curve also. prop guy says 5700rpm is the optimum line for this motor.
again, thanks guys. rick

yea he has treated me good for a lot of years. there are a couple of closer ones but i just don't get a good vibe. up here the word spreads on a good guy and twice as fast on questionable ones sort of thing. about an hour an hour twenty drive north of me i could be ice fishing also. time to play some golf and get some soft water fishing in now though. its been a long winter up here this year. rick

You def need to have a spare prop....if your on big water.

Is it not possible for you to change the prop while the boat is in the water at the dock(and motor trimmed way up)?

i know what you are saying about a spare prop for sure, bay of quinte 10 min and lake ontario 20 min. i was just inquiring about what prop would of been on the boat as a new package for a base line to see if there was more i guess. i can and i have changed props at the dock and in the middle of somewhere but this getting older thing sucks especially with the temp of the water 1 or 2 degrees above freezing. there is another prop in the boat about the same condition that would get me home for now. i don't plan on any big water till the salmon are a go, just rivers and small lakes that the kicker will suffice.
the question of boat props is like carburetors on hot rods, it is a pandora's box when opened. i have had boats for some years just not one of these types. getting older again thing. thanks, rick
