I'm currently looking for a 140 outboard around the mid 80's just wondering what your opinions are on the best ones made!

The 1985-1987 OMC loopers were torque monsters. In 1988 they opened up the bore and added some electronic features like S.L.O.W. and Quick Start. Even more torque. I would highly recommend one given your requirements.

I will be slapping this on a 17' fibreglass bow rider so the torque is welcome

Then you definately want a looper. If the budget allows you might consider a 60 degree V4 from 1995 and newer. They are lighter, still make great torque and rev very quickly. Either would be a great choice.

Good luck!

Yes there were both style loopers in 1995. Your 130 is a big bore 90 degree looper. The 60 degree loopers were 90 and 115 hp.
