My 1964 Evinrude 9.5 started right up after sitting for about 10 years (I guess I put it away right!). For some reason the stop button doesn't kill the ignition anymore. The switch checks out fine with a VOM but checking across the leads from the switch to the points shows no resistance. So, if these are already tied together at the points, closing them with the switch doesn't change things. So why does it run if both sets of points are already grounded together? I pulled the flywheel and the points seem to be grounded through the primary side of the coils. This thing starts with a 6 inch pull, so it's got a hot spark. Where do I look next? Thanks in advance to those old magneto guys.
