Store Kicker on stomach of back

I am going to lay a backup motor in my boat, and want to know the best way to do this, on its back( carbs up prop down) or stomach (carbs down prop up). I figure carbs up is the way to go. The motor is a 1958 Johnson 18.

Personaly I would sit it carb. side up But only after fuel system was evacked. Good Luck Mattie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Neither, stand it upright. You want to be sure ALL water has drained, or freezing can damage the motor.

Also,<br /><br />Never store the engine with the lower unit at a higher elevation than the powerhead as water can leak into the powerhead and cause some really nasty damage. My Johnson owner's manuals state to make sure water has completly drained from lower unit and then to store the engine on a stand or resting on its backside, prop down, carb up.

Carb up it is with powerhead fwd to keep the fluids in the lu. Thanks for the help.
