Hello happy boaters , i have a (strange) question
i own a 15 h.p Johnson short shaft from 1998 , and i have stored it up side down (for 2 weeks now ,for space)
my question is : is this way of storing an outboard engine bad for the engine (on long term also) ? i am thinking of seals in the shaft area ? greetings

I don't think any manufacturer recommends storing upside down.
I would worry about water making its way back into engine.
I would also think the gas would drain out.

The concern is that water will drain from the exhaust system into the cylinders - particularly bad if you run in salt water.

You could set it back upright, and 'fog' oil spray through the carb, while pulling the starter rope, to re-coat the crank & cylinders. Best to run it a bit, too, to drive any water out of the powerhead.

Re: storing a outboard up side down ?

okay very clear about the water and the fuel , the outboard had been laying around(in the guest room)with out been used for about 12 months (no fume's) ,the engine was very dry and new(because of not being used), before y stored it upside down (no gas in carb, y drained it )but the water ? okay thanks a lot , i'l give the engine the space she needs (tomorow) and 2 be on the safe side i'l pour in some 2 stroke oil down the spark plug holes and crank here slightly ,so every thing gets some oil .y could use some input on shaft seals(upside down) ? and should there be water in the engine after 12 months of not being used ?
