Re: Storing alcohol on the boat.

In Canada, or at least here in B.C. I cant speak for any other provinces, as long as a boat has cooking facilities and a toilet it is considered a place of residence, same as a motorhome. Alchol may be stored on board with the seal or case open, it may be consumed while tied up at a public dock but not on the dock. If you are stopped and checked while under way the law generaly looks the other way as long as the driver is not drinking .

Point conceded. If a boat is equipped as a dwelling it qualifies as a home, not as a recreational vehicle.

OK this thread can die now. I got my answer. Thank you everyone.

How about another answer? :)

We've had liquor on our houseboat since we bought it in 2006. (We don't drink all that much) It's been thru 6 years of temps from 110?+ on down to 10? below zero. We finally brought a bunch of it home last fall to hopefully use up during the holidays. Tequila, dark & light rum, Captain Morgans, Gilbeys gin, Wild Turkey, Amaretto, 3 or 4 different vodka's, Canadian Hunter, Canadian Host, 101 Ice schnaps, Chappala coffee liquor, cinnamon schnaps, even some 2 year old or so Carolans's irish cream- Pretty much all of it got used and none of it seemed any worse for wear!

The busier the lake, the busier the mounties are. Keep the alcohol out of sight and don't act like a bunch of drunken teenagers and the law probably won't bother you.

You da man Sasto.... lol

The real question here should be "how do you properly store a blender in a boat?" :)

Blenders.....Damn!!! Now I'm going to have to increase the house battery capacity......

I have one of these for "un-blended" margarita's. I suppose you can put blended in there.

Place a cloth under the tap though...they drip.

Re: Storing alcohol on the boat.

I live on the shuswap and have neighbours that are RCMP on the water. First thing is the driver has to be sober, you can have alcohol on a boat but you can not be tied up or in a public place to consume alcohol. So if you are out on the lake alone and the driver is sober, it is ok.

I think your RCMP neighbours should learn what the law realy is. As long as you are on board you are not in a public place. There was an artical on this subject in Pacific Yatching about a year ago, the law was clairified as the result of a court case, BTW the RCMP lost.

I think I'm going to drink a beer next to my boat this weekend (still snow on the ground), just to make sure it doesn't spoil.

Spoil? Is that the boat or the beer you are worried about spoiling? THe next question would be, why do you keep beer around the house long enough to spoil?

Cant remember the exact wording, the case just established that a boat with full facilities was not a public place but a private residence.
