Storing of Gas & Oil

Currently we have been filling up 6 five gallon gas cans with gas only, then when we add to the pontoon boat or waverunner we mix the correct amount of oil with gas for 5 gallons.

My question could I just mix each can with the oil & gas and store it like that untill I use it.......1-2 weeks?

It would be a lot easier and not so messy to do it at the gas sation then down at the water, I know not to leave it for a long time without some type of treatment.

Thanks

I don't see why not. That's how we did it for years and still do with lawn equipment. May have to jostle the cans a little bit, depending on if you leave them for prolonged periods, but that's about it. -Joe

That is what I have always done. I don't think adding oil affects the shelf life. I also carefully label the gas can, since I store both straight and premixed gas.

It won't hurt a thing, it will last just as long with oil in it as without. Actually some oils have some fuel stabilizer in them and may make it last longer.

Technically if you mix it up good at the pump you never need to shake it again, the gas mixes with the oil and becomes one. But I guess it never hurts to give it a little shake.

I usually put the oil in first then fill it up. Filling it up helps mix it.

the only reason I can think of not to do it is that you couldn't use that gas in an emergency for the cars, generator, etc. Just be sure to label and not forget the oil one time when filling the boat.

The Oil in the gas will just prevent the generator's muffler from rusting,
Your Catalytic Converter will have no trouble "Converting" it!

I have 5 gal containers that I fill and keep, sometimes for several months with no problem, I have done this for 20 years at least. I have in the last few years started to add some stabilizer when I fill them. No oil in my case, if I need chainsaw or weedeater gas then I put some in a smaller container with the right amount of oil. In your case mix it and store it, couple weeks will not hurt anything.
