Re: Straightening bent aluminum angle.....

so where are the 90 deg brackets going? How deep is the platform? 2'?

LK

3.5" angle
3" angle
3/8" plate

Top view looking down, with angles attaching to the transom vertically (Poor perspective as it's bolting on at 104*,not 90*)

Side view, black angle attaching to transom

Depth of swim platform is still to be determined, but around 24" to cover drive. The plate aluminum is 21" across the top right now, but I may cut it down...

The brackets are going mount similar to these, but constructed differently.

Re: Straightening bent aluminum angle.....

wonder if you can heat it till light red (you have to turn off all shop lights to see it) then quench it to annel the aluminum. then it might bend. After a few weeks it should regain its strenth again

Ayuh,... Aluminum is Unlike steel,... It don't turn color, it Runs,... as in Liquid,....

To anneal aluminum, rub a wet oily rag over 1 surface, 'n heat it from the other side,...
When the oil film evaporates, Stop heatin', 'n let it cool, naturally....
It's as Annealed as it'll get when cooled, but work hardens every time it's moved,...

As for makin' those pieces more square,... Put it 2 legs down, 'n Wack the spline with a BFHammer,...
Use a block of hardwood to cushion the hammer strikes, 'n stop the dentin',...

Couple of good wacks oughta bring that stuff back, Without annealin',.... ;)

i hate to disagree but ive tig welded alot of aluminium and if you turn out the lights after a weld it looks a light dull red in the area that its been welded. I have never heated aluminum on purpose so the idea of using oil sounds like a good plan.
